Happy safe New Year

Submitted: Sunday, Jan 01, 2006 at 17:40

Footloose

It's New Years Day and I'm sweltering here at home. The rellies just rang to say they are stuck in a huge bushfire north of Sydney. He's a St Johns bloke and has offered his services to those on the spot. It seems that he might be there for a while.

Hi Footloose.
Where on the central coast ,worst day we have had in a lot of years. Not in the fire zone luckily , but I think there in for a worrying time up on that hill at umina. Bloody councils and developers should work together on fire break issues BEFORE these subdivisions go ahead. Hope Rellies are ok stuck out there in this heat no joke.
Cheers Axle.

As we watch news of the terrible fires on the east coast, and think of you all sweltering in that horrid heat, we have had a very cool start to the year in the glorious SW. Yesterday we lit the living room fire and ran it all day like it was the middle of winter. Last night got out the doona. Happy New Year and safe travels.

Many thanks all, for your kind wishes. The rellies arrived home safely this morning.

My heart goes out to those who've lost homes and cars, or worse, in bushfires everywhere.

In my youth I fought such fires, and remember 6 houses in a row being burned to the ground luckily without loss of life. There was a funny side, because someone had missed advising one mob to go go go. The firefighters arrived running hoses through the guys backyard. They were amazed when a sleepy and hungover guy opened the window and asked what the %^&* they were doing on his property, and suggested the obvious. Needless to say he was outta there PDQ. His house was one of those lost.

Willem, yep hope to catch you in the bush this year.
