Peter, are you sure that it's the wheel ? If so then it's usually held on by a nut. This may need tightening ?

Check for worn bearing on steering shaft. If you can move it up and down then its a fair bet. If it goes in and out then centre bolt is a possibility. Go see someone who knows rather than stuff around with it IMHO. Cheers

some steering columns are secured under the dash via a bracket incorporated into the steering lock/ignition switch assembly.

Usually these are held in place by security bolts which shear the heads off when tightened during fitting.

Take a look there. Although I don't know if it's a problem inherent to your vehicle, it has happened in a couple of other vehicles I know of.

This is NOT something for backyard 'trial and error' internet diagnostics (just like brakes).

No offence, but in all honesty if you need to ask........well......just do the right thing and take your vehicle to a qualified mechanic immediately and get it sorted out properly.

I had a 93 Pajero and the same thing happened to the steering. A bolt had vibrated loose on the column when we went down the Gunbarrell Highway and other such tracks. Not being a mechanic cannot tell you exactly where or how but as others have advised get it checked by a mechanic immediately. Apparently there are two bolts. On ours the second one was about to let go. I am glad that did not happen at any speed let alone 100kmh.
