Recommend Campground in Beerwah/SE Queensland Area?

Submitted: Thursday, Jan 05, 2006 at 10:18

Hello everyone:

My family and I will be visiting Australia in June/July and hiring a motorhome to do some camping and touring. As my son is keen to visit the Australia Zoo a bit north of Brisbane, we wondered if you could recommend a good campground in that area. We would ideally like one equipped with what we in the US would call "hookups" -- electric line and water for the motorhome.

We've had good luck booking sites via the web throughout NSW but this area remains a puzzle.

Oh, and how crucial are advance bookings in early July?

Many thanks!

Tom

Tom,

Are you looking for powered or unpowered sites. There are a good variety of both in this part of the world so let us Know and I can give you some information.

Hi Tom,

There is a van park close to Steve Irwin's park. The name I don't know (but it isn't the one above) it is easy to find. The road leading North out of Brisbane is a piece of cake and has a well sign posted turn off to the zoo (the t/o to the zoo is about 20K) about 15 k along this road is a park it didn't look busy when I drove past last week as it is somewhat out of the main flow.

The term here for hookups is a powered site.

I'm sure you'll enjoy your visit there.

Kind regards

Scottp, BrianB, Beatit -- thank you very much. We're definitely looking for a powered site for the motorhome! For two or three nights I should think.

Would it be dumb of us to just roll into the area in early July with no advance booking in hand, or would we be well-advised to reserve?

Thanks again!

Tom
