Hi Leigh,

True enough. Pity given the lack of space in modern vehicles that they have built a unit that still occupies a lot of real estate on the dash/console. These days it's a fight to fit it all in. UHF, phone kit, GPS & HF - and in some cases more than that. Head height consoles aren't much chop if you hit your head on them in a prang but are becoming the only way to fit comms gear in at all.

We aren't all lucky enough to have the space you had to fit yours in. One of the advantages of a troopy I guess is that the front is less cluttered than say a GU or a 100 series.

Good use of a RAM mount, which is how I've mounted my NGT head, but the difference is that the NGT head is on the mic and fits in the cup holder of the ute. Nothing on the dash at all.

Pics of the NGT & RAM mount in mine. Sorry for the quality, I'm at work and used the phone cam.

NGT head in my hand. This is all that needs to be mounted in the cab. It has a long lead and the junction box can go pretty much anywhere - under seat, side of tranny tunnel, under dash etc. The cradle is about the size of a phone holder and everything is done from this bit.

NGT head on RAM mount.

Would be interested in having a look at one at Wandin if there's one there - and if I get there.

Speed week 30 days and counting down...holidays start in 23 but I'm not counting that either.

Thanks John, the main reason I'm interested in the Barrett is that I have a d/cab and I can lay the antenna horizontal in the tray and have the whip on the outside, so I have been told.

cheers

I saw one in operation at Bushcom in Perth about 10 months ago. Barret where letting Bushcom try out a prototype. They gave us a demo while we were there. Very impresive; if I where buying a new radio that would be it.

Can't say as I haven't seen one. The price is red hot for a new radio. (It'll knock the second hand market around for the older Barretts - maybe it already has, I bought a 550 and autotune for $400 the other day.)

It'd have to be good to beat an NGT with the right software profile in it.

The quality of the programmer makes or breaks the NGT - talk to Lake MacQuarrie Communications.

The new NGT traveller package is fantastic value. They've dropped their price a fair bit to put out a new radio that does most of what any 4wder wants without the bells and whistles that serious HF users want. Makes it less complicated to use too.
