I have used that method (running off the 1st battery direct) previously and in fact thats how my CD player is running, however I know from past experience the battery that has the 12 volt draw on it always seems to last a lot less time than the one on the 24v side. As for "Toy Trucks" - safe at the moment and firmly in Tojo territory as hiding in Tom Price for a month.

Bit wet up here at the moment tho it was interesting to see the guy in Karratha do a flotation test on his PLaydo in the Turner River last night.

Best pic ever saw was two blokes sitting on the roof rack rack of their swept away Tojo P/C 47 series in the middle of a river with fishing rods and XXXX in hand. Classy act!

It WILL create problems, unless the battery voltages are equalised. Redarc sell a device to do this. If the level of charge in each battery is not balanced by an external device, the batteries do not do this all alone - unlike when they are in parallel. One battery will be overcharged and die of being boiled dry, the other battery will die because it is undercharged.

The other alternative is run 12v items via a 24v/12v reducer, but draw is limited by the devices capacity, unlike the balancing device that allows high current draw which is then balance back over time.

That's not an exhaustive model list.

Mine is an olive green lid 27l model from around 1979. Model MRFT-530-A4 .

The internal inverter specs say 12v input, output 20v AC. The label on the input plug says 12V/240V, so though I'd prefer to run on 24v and have the ability to do so, I'll be leaving mine on the 12v.

It's not that hard to search the Engel website and find info out direct from the source. www.engelaustralia.com.au then go to products then to past products. I found mine listed there, confirming the specs above.
