I dont think the points were an issue as she only had an NT driving license. They rarely have speed cameras in kalgoorlie and i dont see many speed traps. When the Highway Patrol are in town they seem to think it is a good use of their time to sit at the corner of Speculation and Maxwell drive to try and ping motorists exceeding the 50kph limit in an area with no housing and only parkland for about 1km

Current penalties in QLD for speeding are:

Less than 13 km/h over the speed limit:
$A100 + 1 demerit point.

At least 13 km/h but not more than 20 km/h over the speed limit: $A150 + 3 demerit points.

More than 20 km/h but not more than 30 km/h over the speed limit: $A250 + 4 demerit points.

More than 30 km/h but not more than 40 km/h over the speed limit: $A350 + 6 demerit points.

More than 40km/h over the speed limit:
$A700 + 8 demerit points and 6 month suspension.

The government here has not yet implemented the double demerit point system although it looks likely they will in the very near future. With that apparently the fines will go up in dollar value as well.

With the national scheme I believe if you get pinched in another state then you are subject to that states demerit and fine system.

Know what you mean Davoe lived and worked in Kalgoorlie for a year, 2 years ago only place I sore anyone get done was on the by-pass road that runs adjacent to KCGM or Super-pit for everybody else.

I helad a national heavy vehicle liscense when i got here which was valid in every state to drive a semi except WA where I had to get it converted and hey presto I had a Road Train Liscense. I thas since been changed back to a semi liscense

yep, I love living in N.S.W. but the laws suck. Driving through towns you spend more time watching your speedo than the roads due to constant speed limit changes. Modern cars have such touchy accelerator pedals that you have to constantly monitor your speed because a pothole, slight rise or dip in the road, the weight of your foot on the pedal etc change your speed. Atleast in the standard 80series diesel you have to put your foot down to go faster LOL!
Are we also the only state that you need an inspection before approval of rego?
