Superwinch

Hi All,

I had my Toyota fitted winch fail the other day, it was the first time that I have used it, still looks brand new only it is now in two pieces.

The winch is an X9 superwinch that Toyota fit and class it as a genuine accessory.

My dilemma is that it is only just over one year old and I will have to do battle with Toyota for any warranty.

Has anyone else had any experience with this particular winch, is it worth battling Toyota or should I just write it off as another bad experience and buy something more reliable.

I am lucky that I was not using the winch in anger at the time as I was only re running it onto the spool to exercise it. It could have left me in a very difficult or dangerous situation.

I would be interested in your comments as usual.

It broke into two pieces with no load. You were doing the right thing giving it a run.
It should be still under warranry.

G'day Matt,

the one on the front of mine is four years old and has been given a caining by the govt. department that originally owned it and hasn't broken yet. Definately get on to toyota about it as it may have been a dodgy batch. If that fails contact Superwinch themselves and try and get some action. Sounds like something was a miss with the individual unit. Site Link

Hello Matt

Your situation would be covered by consumer protection legislation which require goods sold to be suitable for the stated use . To put it in legalise , the product must be ' merchantable '. Talk to Consumer Affairs before approaching Toyota .

Toyota will cover it no worries , being a genuine toyota accessery it is covered by there three year warranty if fitted on the vehicle from new .
Not sure if you have had it fitted on an older car or not but l would still imagine it to be covered .
After buying my car from the auctions l discovered the winch not to be working , as the car was only two years old l thought it would still be covered, so l took it to toyota who checked it out and discovered water had got in to the motor of it .
A new motor was then fitted no questions asked and not a cent to spend .
Mind you this is the only good experience l have had with my local dealer .

I damagedy Warn winch by bunching the cable up on one side and cracking the end plates. If the two tie rods on the winch show signs of damage the warranty claim might get knocked back. My claim with ARB was rejected as the winch wasn't used in accordance with Warn's oerating instructions. To be fair I didn't expect them to cover it but I asked the question anyway. They supplied the parts at trade and I fixed it myself.

I got one on the Disco, i've used it a couple of times now works a treat, it's about 4 or 5yrs old.
