BCA

Has anyone had experience using a Nissan Patrol 2.8 Turbo Diesel Inter-Cooler towing an 18ft caravan? Good or bad.

Bad. Certainly not the best choice for a tow vehicle. Very poor off boost performnce, very little torque. One of the most difficult vehicles for me to train inexperienced ppl in in a low range situation, either no power off boost or a lower gear boost and wheel spin. Ideal as a Toorack tractor and a nice road car.Cheers,

BCA, I have the 96 model, and love it. It's great off road if you know how to drive it. I would never consider using it for a tow vehicle. You would burn the clutch out trying to take of. I think the only difference between mine, and a 98, is the 98 has an intercooler, which isnt enough to overcome the problem. Go for a 4.2.

BCA,
I have the '99 model and used to tow a Jayco Flamingo camper with it. It was a bit sluggish on take off but it was fine once you got rolling. Did not bother us as we were not in a rush when towing. As for off road, it is a good vehicle, you just need to know how to drive it. I think that most people that criticise it probably never owned one or expect it to perform like a ferrari. That said, if I had the coin and expected to tow I would buy a 4.2
