What make is the fridge ?

It simply means you have a Waeco or other fridge with 240AC capability built in. Some fridges only have 12 volts and needed a rectifier to run off 240vac. So with both 12v and 240vac you won't need a rectifier , an extra box and cable to carry around when and if you want to run the fridge of a normal 240vac powerpoint. This is the best way to go, you have a 2 way fridge. 3 Way fridge has 12v, 240vac and Gas capability to run.

1 what do you want the fridge for
2 do you want to instal a second battery to run the fridge
3 do you want to freese
4 what do you want to put in to the fridge (beer)
5 How long do you want to have the fridge four
when you know the answer then the cost will determin the fridgr your will require

Tony, I won't try to answer any technical questions, but I have a Reefer 70Lt DTV (dual temp verticle). What this means is it has a separate feeezer section and it is front opening, rather than the normal top opening. For what I want it is a great fridge. All metal construction and stainless steel inside. Great controller with digital readout. I can fully control the fridge temp and know what it is at all times.

More expensive than some others, but the freezer works as well as the one you have at home.

I think your question relates tho the fact that the Reefer uses a Mitsubishi compressor that is similar to the one in your home fridge.

If you just want to keep the beer cold, it is possibly too much fridge. If, like me you are planning long trips, regularly resupplying with bulk meat you want to freeze; or wanting to make ice on the road to feed to an esky; or catching fish you want to quickly freeze, and you don't like the idea of a plastic fridge in the back of the 4B in North Australia heat, it is well worth considering.

A final point. I had a one off problem with my fridge. One time it would not start on 240V, but was OK on 12V. Only ever happened once. I called Refrigeration Research (manufacturer). They called me back straight away so the call was at their cost. Talked me through some diagnostics on the controller. We could not replicate the problem. They asked me, once I had a couple of weeks when I didn't need it to pull the 'computer unit' out and send it to them. They checked it out and updated the programming to the latest version and posted it back to me. I thought that was pretty good service.

Other than that one off problem, it has been great.

Most of the top fridge brands are very good and their owners mostly seem to be very happy. I guess it depends what your plans are and what your budget allows.

The Original Liemac was designed and built by Peter McKay and has a Rotary Compressor and sold by Liemac.
The original Reefer is a revamp or the Liemac and was still designed and built by Peter McKay and sold by Refrigeration Research.
The Reefer 50 and 70 new metal chest Type and made by Ruey Shing and have Danfos compressors and is identical to the Downunder and prior to this there was a 40L,60L and 100L plastic chest type using Danfos also made by Ruey Shing sold by Refrigeration Research.
