Steel 16X8 Rims

Submitted: Sunday, Feb 09, 2003 at 12:28

V8 Diesel

Can anyone point me towards OME Steel Nissan Patrol GU Series II DX Rims please.

My GU Series I rims are developing cracks towards the outside edge on a number of the spokes even though they have only seen tar sealed roads.

That is a Nissan Warranty issue...

There have been lots cracking.
Take it back...

If they wont do anything about it, jump on the patrol list, there are several that have had them changed there.

If you want a spare set of rims, G&C Comms in Cranbourne Vic have a set forsale in our club magazine.

The above replies are correct in that the cracking rims are a Nissan problem.

I have just had two replaced under warranty. No questions asked.

And the dealer knows that I have just returned from a trip that covered the Painted Desert, Mereenie loop and Oodnadatta track.

Unfortunately the tyre that exploded and wrecked another rim did not crack it as It may have been replaced too.

Go to Nissan and get them replaced if your rig is still under warranty. Otherwise the quoted Nissan price is $400 a rim

Have you had any other problems with your truck.

Regards
Gary

Truckster - No photos of the rim but definitely out of shape after it took about 400 metres to pull up the truck and camper trailer after BFG AT exploded. Tread came off sidewalls in one piece as if cut off. Tyre only had 4000kms on it. Dealer replaced it but manufacturer reckon they found a small hole which allowed the tyre to deflate and then overheat, causing it to explode.

Only problem I have ever had with BFG A/Ts

A mate of mine has had exactly the same problem - definately a warranty issue and one Nissan is aware of. For safety's sake I don't understand why there hasn't beena full recall. Maybe the problem only happens with heavy offroad use - meaning 90% will never need replacing.

Anyway - contact your nissan dealer they will fix it for you.

Go with Sunnys, they are only around $55 for 15x8's for a GQ... Check with your local tire dealer.

If you can't get them replaced under warranty, ring around the spare parts section of all the big Nissan dealers. We managed to buy 3 x GU steel rims recently for $100 each, 2 nd hand but brand new. Price quoted for new ones was $420 each. 2nd hand ones are hard to get though, we've been trying to locate a 4th without any luck.
