Hi Guys and Gals,

There was an article in the Courier Mail about a couple of guys that have bought the distribution rights for the Tomcar, a vehicle that seems to be an in between quad bike/small 4WD. They claim the vehicle is in service in various part of the world including the israelii army and US police services. Their interest is in developing markets in the rural, defence and mining sectors. A 725 cc motor and soft top with agricultural type tyres I’m guessing will not make it a road registering option.

The two-seater version is to be sold for $17,000 + GST and the first car is to roll off the assembly line in Sept. The vehicle looks interesting but rather small and probably won’t catch on with the 4WD fraternity. They would seem to make a great substitute for extended bike or quad trips and I can see some interest there, assuming you have those type of $ available.

It kind of looks more like a Manx buggy but probably not as powerful. If you weren't into fishing I could imagine that one could be an exploration vehicle in remote areas, instead of walking. Possibly could be towed like a trailer (like they do on the motor homes) and disconnected for some serious exploring to save the 4WD.

I have had the pleasure of driving one of these things and must say I was very impressed. Suspension is all independant using coil over shocks and its performance is amazing. I drove the base model and the mid psec model. I thought both were a little underpowered, but heaps of fun all the same. I can see a huge market for these things in rural areas as they are much safer and stable than a quad bike. Its like driving an off road racing buggy, but with the cost or the pwer. I believe when they go into production they are going to use 75hp collier motor as opposed to the 35 hp unit they use now.

Yeah they do look like fun, sort of like a jet ski or quad bike but maybe a bit more practical. I suppose if one has the $ it could be part of the toy stable.
