But there are plenty of highway biased tyres out there that will be cheaper

For on road I would stick with 235/70/16's

Currently run 245.75R16 on my stock standard DiscoTD5 with no problems with touching anywhere.
However dimensions and clearances are different to the earlier models.
Mate ran 245.75.R16 Coopers on his 93 Diesel with no mods to anything.
Does affect the speedo a bit, 110kph on the dial had me in strife, Fundraising camera recorded me at 118 ($100 & 2 points)

Another option is 245/70/16 Kelly ATs, which were on my Disco when i bought it, more of a highway tyre than offroad and in the time i had them i found them to be excellent on the road and not too bad offroad and didn't look all that bad when i replaced them, now run 245/75/16 Cooper STT, but i have a 4" lift so mine don't rub, but they didn't rub when i had no lift either.

when I put 245/75s on my D1 the speedo reads correct according to the GPS.

Hi Richard,
I run essentially road tyres on my alloys 235/70/16 and on the steel rims 245/75/16 Goodyear MTR.The discovery 11 has a 50 mm lift.When running the bigger tyres i find it runs out of puff a bit quicker on long uphills requiring more gear changes,slight economy loss and need to remember that 94kmh on the speedo is actually 100kmh.For road use it is a better drive on the 235/70/16 as the gearing and economy are better but for off road the taller more aggressive tyres come into there own.This is the advantage of having two sets of wheels but if i had only one set i would run with the 235/70/16's.

Thanks for so many replies. I have checked out the rear guards and yes they would be close, on the road ok, but on any rough stuff may cause a problem. The speedo would not have been a problem as mine reads 110 at 100, thats from the gps. But the one I really thought about was the lack of performance with the bigger tyres. This may be a concern as I drive fairly hard, especially overtaking. Will look at 235 and 245 both in 70 profiles. Thanks for the feedback

If you drive aggressively, then the bigger diam tyres may not be what you really want....without gearing mods!

But since I've changed my 205R16 for 31x10.5/15's on my rodeo.....my fuel economy is much better!! possibly by 0.5km/l!!

You have to remember that when you change the diam of the wheel your ODO is also going to tell you some little pokies about the number of kms travelled.....mine currently tells me about 3% less klms or about 10 klms for every 100!

On the boring freeway bits from Albury to Melb, I use the mile posts to keep a tab on how (in)accurate the odo is!! The GPS is not the perfect tool for that measurement???

ps. why not learn to drive less aggressively? You'll get there just as quckly...save for 5 mins or so :p......sounds like you have a "fuel card"!!!! :P
( you can almost always tell who has the luxury of a "fuel card".....and those that pay their own way.......except for the younger women!!! thay almost always drive at 20kmh over the posted limit!!)
