The connection is most likely left hand thread. Usually left hand thread has nicks in the corners of the nut.

Finally got the gas connection loose.( normal thread) It was just stiff. Turns out my problem was twofold.
First - control rod for thermostat, from front of fridge to thermostat not connected to thermostat, therefore thermostat could not be adjusted and was set to max cold.
Second - Thermostat was faulty anyway as electrical contacts are short circuit.

So will now have to replace thermostat. If I could get the fridge out of the van life would be so much easier. Fridge is wider in every direction than the door, and I do not wish to remove the door. Never a dull moment around here!
