LAND ROVER has whipped the covers off a cracking new 200kW/640Nm turbo-diesel V8 that will make its UK debut in this year's upgraded 2007 Range Rover, before coming online in Australia next year.

Jointly developed specifically for Range Rover by Land Rover and parent company Ford, the new 3.6-litre common-rail TDV8 offers a truck-like 640Nm of torque between 2000 and 2500rpm, with 400Nm (more than the previous Rangie diesel’s 390Nm peak) available from just 1250rpm.

Why manufacturers don't make them just a bit bigger and slightly less stressed is beyond me. Fuel is simply not that huge a deal in the big scheme of things - it's operating costs you have to look at. Mind you, if they hold together for the long run they'll be sensational. That much grunt out of that size donk would suggest a very dissapointing (and expensive) B10 and B50 rating to me.

Reading in the local Motor sport club newsletter about a 762 cubic inch V8 available from the states that produces about 1100 BHP on 89 octane fuel. That's power from understressed motor. No substitute for cubic inches.

The japs ,always do a better job with the overall finish no matter what there building! Mechanically they all have dramas & surprisingly what ever make it is they seem to have similar issues!. For what we pay. !! Theres room for improvement on the whole bloody lot of them.

Back in 1998 I t hink it was, the 50th anniversary of Landrover. I bought a magazine that had been published about Landrover by one of the local publishing companies,4x4 Australia, Overlander or someone like that.

It talked about a lot of things Landrover but the interesting statistic was that, at the time, 60% of all Landrovers ever built were still registered for use on public raods. That statistic did not include all the others that are still running around on farms and the like unregistered.

Now I love my Nissan but I wonder if the percentage of all Nissan 4wd ever built that are still running is anywhere near 60%. I doubt it.

It would be even less Toyotas or Mitsubishis. lol............ :-)
