Hi.

Been thinking about updating our old ever so faithfull millard caravan.

Not wanting anything to flash, just somethig a bit more modern & a tad more room. Well ! Off we go, And browse through a few yards. In the first 4hrs of looking the stress level is over the top, because half the second hand stuff is worse than what we have!. Finally after climbing around all the chit I found a tamden axle evernew, in exceptional condition for age. So rounded up the wife to have a peek, only to find her sittingi in a new tamden axle Bush tracker $ 65000
Worth??. " I LIKe this she exclaims!" , So dragged her down to the one that suits the budget, and yeah, but its not as nice, its not this its not that.!
SO the millard stays.
AH! Married Life Cheers Axle.

Well it was my HUSBAND who wouldn't go past Bushtracker after he saw one. I was willing to try a less sturdy van - but as usual he put his big foot down. I'm glad he did. Quite a few for sale now listed on rvpoint

Ahh Mother'hn, I see that pays for itself monthly on fuel it saves by not being put into Moses tanks when we are home. It runs on the smell of an oily rag even compared to Moses newer economical way breathing easier.

See how we men can try to justify things? I just think it's a few years out yet and don't know I want to tow a roadblock on every trip. We both thought this may offer a stepping stone Site Link

That does have some impressive features, including bathroom and QS bed. Diesel cooking and hot water sounds interesting. Anyone used these?

A former neighbour of our sold his farm and purchased a Trayon slide on camper, as it had all the trimmings of a nice camper trailer, without needing to tow. www.trayon.com/
I haven't seen it - just piccies on the web. I don't think it has a bathroom though.

Hey Motherhen

I have a Trayon and you are correct, it does not have a bathrrom. Poratloo in a cupboard and one of those things that you have too wretle with to get it back in the bag...portable shower tent!!!!! We love the Trayon, don't have to tow anything and all the mods of home althought not as big. We are planning to live in it for a year or two and we leave as soon as we can sell our unit in Brissy.

John, I just read post 34599 saying they are $50,000! At that i would want on that unfolds itself and makes the bed.

Bushpig, I wish you luck living long term in a Trayon. My husband got sick of winding up the little van we used to have when on a 4 week holiday and said never again. Not towing would be a great bonus of course.

I got lucky......sort of.....

My beautiful wife was exceptionally happy to trade in our two little rice burning sedans for a shiny, well maintained 99 Prado.....I am thinking to myself " you little ripper...I get a 4by with above average capability and my wife is eager to purchase and drive it......even better is the fact that she rarely drinks and is happy to drive the Prado home after socialising and I am having some form of internal navigation problem"......Married life doesn't get any better than this.....

Then I decided to beef the Prado up a little......hhhhmmmm...... " As long as you don't spoil its looks " is the verdict. After much wheeeling and dealing I am allowed a snorkel and if I MUST have a winch then I should try and hide that big hook thingy out of view.

So far I have got away with a 2 inch OME lift but all the rest of the modifications I am planning ( see rig profile ) must remain invisible to the untrained eye.

Eventually our financial situation improved and she was able to go out and purchase a sexy little Honda (semi) sports car....yes it is very nice but can't climb or ford for chit....This has eased the pressure concerning the Prado's looks especially since the Honda looks like its been across the Simpson once or twice and the Prado that does actually leave the bitumen doesn't have a scratch.....

My only dilemma at the moment is that I need a winch bar to replace the current alloy. All the 4by shops are recommending steel but none of the steel bars look good (not my opinion) except the T15 and that only comes in black.....So...Do I replace alloy with an alloy winch bar or do I spend even more and attempt to colour co-ordinate a steel winch bar with the vehicles paint ( pearl / goldy-silvery toyota-ery colour).

Cheers....Taz

Why not go the extra and have the steel bar powder coated to match the body colour of the Prado? The steel bar should serve better with a winch, even with the "big hook thingy" hidden...... LOL

I just paid for her 500 dollar gym membership plus 500 for the gym outfits, she is booking in the fourby for its service. I mentioned " get them to chuck the snorkel on why its in for the service, it will save rebooking it again " Her reply was "a snorkel why do we need one of those " after explaining ( she knew any way as we had one on the troopie ) " as long as its not too expensive "

I am not asking anymore, I will just do it and get my affection back from the Pathfinder. The way her paint shines in the moonlight.......... sigh ......... quiet drives along the beach at night................ oops sorry drifting off there.

Yep I love them both , Im just not sure which one the most LOL....
She always complains I only take photos of the car , the dog , the surf.

I think I need help ?

I mentioned to the other half that we should look at selling our non offroad Jayco camper. I wasn't sure if I wanted a "real camper trailer" (the tent on a trailer type), or just a second hand Jayco outback!

Well hell, she rang the guy's at Caravan Land, they came out and gave us an appraisal to trade in, and she ended up getting $500 less than I originally paid for it 4 years ago plus got bag awnings and bed end fly's thrown in on the new one.

Talk about a great deal. I should let her do the talking more often !! HAHAHA

The only thing she didn't get her way was I wanted the Small finch and she wanted the bigger Dove. I won that one, and I regret it cos the bed is too small. But don't tell her I said that what ever you do!!!! LOL

Don't totally discount the bride shopper - just give her plenty of time. I've taken her from "no way" to we will be carravaning, just took 20 years! We will be missing this year's caravan show in Brissie but on a previous expedition she asked the salesman about the benefits of one of those 30cm pop tops and concluded that we will be getting a full size model with a car port to match. All this is at least 5 years away but I feel good.

Kind regards
