I remember as a child I tried the Miracle Berry up in Cairns. It changes your taste buds so that if you eat anything sour it changes to a sweet taste after eating the berry. Does anyone know where I can get some seeds for this Miracle Berry? Any help would be appreciated.

I'd like something that does the opposite. Might help to cut down the weight in the 4by :)))))))

Gardener,
You don't say where you are located.. Is there a (plant) nursery near you that specialises in exotic fruits?? I know that there are some nurseries that do/did have the potted plants...

I had known about this berry for some time, & a few years ago commented on it to my family, & expressed an interest in locating seeds (or a potted plant)...
Thought no more about it, 'till one day my daughter (& SIL) came by with one only potted Miracle Fruit plant, which they'd spotted at a nursery here in Toowoomba...

Had it a few years now, & it's very slow growing, & hasn't flowered yet, so I dunno how long it'll be 'till I get a crop of them there Miracle Berries...

I can tell you though, that it doesn't like the cold weather!! (but it's clinging tenaciously to life;-))

If its not potted in acidic soil as in half premium potting mix and half peat moss then it will slowly but surely die .

Thanks for that Troopyman... Much appreciated!!

SWMBO re-potted it when we got it, & it has never occurred to me to query what mix she used (or what is required), but the plant is certainly not doing as well as I thought it should, and your statement pretty much explains why!!..... I'll get on it right away:-))

Now (as in time of year) would be as good a time as any, I presume???

Again, Many Thanks!

Regards, Ed. C.

Hi Gardener,

will have to check but a friend of mine used to have one at his back door (I suspect it was used with dodgy home brew)
He is a generous bloke so will see if i can get some seeds.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm in Brissie. I'm a bit the same, the Miracle Fruit was a distant memory until I saw a segment on tellie about it. Now I think my kids would get a kick out of it. We have quite a garden - mostly edible plants and herbs and I'm keen to add it to the collection! Let me know if you can send me any seeds. Thanks all!

This is funny , but not at the time . I have a small miracle berry in a pot out the back . A couple of weeks ago i said to the wife do you want to try a berry and you can eat a lemon like its an orange . My wife did and she thought it was great . Later on that day my wife reminded me that it was our wedding anniversary (in trouble again) and we are going out to a restaurant for lunch while the kids are at school . How long does this damn thing take to wear off . We got to the restaurant and my wife ordered a lovely meal which she couldnt eat any of and boy was i embarrased and in trouble again .

Ok i just noticed that you are in brissie . Neilsons native garden at loganholme . They are on a table right down the back on the right hand side . They come from the congo in africa and like a acidic soil . Put it in a pot with half good quality potting mix and half peat moss . Always keep wet but well drained . My pot sits under the solar hot water overflow pipe so the soil is always wet .
