Thanks for your offer RC, sounds like a new td 4.2 patrol @ around $43k may be a better value option.

The Trade area is great (sarcasm intended). All of the used car dealers go in and pick out all of the cars that they want and then go and have a coffee with each other and then they decide what they really would like to take back to the yard. Once they all agree on the vehicles they go in and bid for them with no opposition. They have an agreement to not bid against each other. Sometimes they make a few dummy bids so as it "appears" not to be rigged. In the end all of the dealers are happy as they get rock bottom prices and mark them up 4 or 5 k in the yard and make a great profit.

This system is so rigged it is plainly obvious.

I cannot work out why the sellers even put their vehicls into a "dealer only" auction for the trade as all of the vehicles get a far better price in the public auctions. The public auction prices are now gettin "retail" rates as they are so popular. It may be some kind of "recycling program" for dealers to move un-sellable cars that are not selling on their own lots. It becomes some sort of "dealer exchange".

Hasnt been any good deals at Fowles for years. Just too many people for any good deals to be won.

Spike , just to clarify a few things. Trade section , is dealers only for starters , this means LMCT only.

Clearance Auction , what we don't want . If I had your attitude , I would be broke. I work as a wholesaler and love to hear that the dealer I sold a vehicle to made a profit. You say they make 4 to 5 k , Gee you say it like its a crime.

The buy runs a business to make money. Do you go to the milk bar and complain that he makes profit on milk and bread ?

The dealer runs a yard that probably cost 5 k a month in rent ( usually a lot more ) . He employs x amount of people , spends money on advertising and warranty work . Yet you don't see the need for him to make money. Do you work for love ? or do you work to support your family and make a dollar?

On average a dealer will buy a car and then spend money on

Freight
Detail
paint
Mechanical / RWC items
advertising
commission for the sale

Is this money going to come from thin air ?

The other major complaint, is that we buy all the good public action cars also. When you sit in Auctions all day every week , your are likely to walk away with some good deals . Most people expect to walk into a auction for the first time and walk away with a bargain. Homework and effort = profit . Nothing is stopping you paying $100 more than a dealer is willing to pay , to win the vehicle.

We will pay according to the vehicles spend . Yes we walk away from some vehicles , mainly because we know better.

Is it a way for us to get rid of unwanted stock ? you bet it is

My advice is , do your homework. Spend time at auctions and record all the information that you can . Inspect the vehicles properly and report the amount of kms , dints and price them at $300 a panel to repair and paint . Also don't forget to check RWC items eg. Tyres / Windscreens / Oil leaks etc etc etc.

If this seams like to much work , go to a yard pay the extra and get over it lol.

Also , don't forget that purchasing from a LMCT , will protect you from stolen vehicles and vehicle owing money. This for most people is reason alone to not go private sale.

Sorry to have a dig, but we are all trying to achieve one thing, to work in our field and make as much as we can to better our life style and families .
