A very reliable and robust engine that makes good power and torque for it's vintage. Oil change intervals are important due to the 4-main bearing crankshaft. I would suggest an after market by-pass filter/purifier such as a Franz. The oil pressure switch has a low-pressure cut out circuit that will shut down the engine if oil pressure falls below 8psi(I think), this safe guard mechanism can cause intermittant problems if water/crap gets inside the protective boot around the sender. Fuel inlet hose into the fuel injection pump has a sintered bronze filter in-line. This can clog up and cause lack of power/failure to rev over 1500rpm/surging problems. Other than this, it is a bomb proof engine. I ran a brand new MK (1985 turbo) from Melb to
Brisbane in summer, fully laden, air con all the way, sat on 120kph and it still returned 29 mpg!
