i'm thinking of adapting a spare wheel carrier from a pathfinder or bronco
to fit my 1999 navara ute.
i hate spare wheels underneath cars (especially when bogged in cold mud)
does any one have any experiences with trying to fit one i e sizes
and do they work loose after awhile(kaymar is too dear$1400)
and i would like room for a water tank and long range tank.
(i cant affard a patrol (lol)).
cheers
any ideas or thoughts welcome
thanks

Toonfish,

Can't see why your idea would not work. Make up a bracket that bolts to the chassis rail at the left hand back with a pivot. Secure the carrier when closed to the rear tailgate. Make sure you brace the inside of the tailgate. You could probably make this device for under $200.

Alternatively you can fit the spare wheel over the cab on a small rack ( can you fit such a rack to a Navara?). I have seen some government Toyotas fitted out as such. Just some thoughts. I have spent my life thinking out ways and means to carry extra gear on vehicles. Some inventions work and some don't. But you gotta try! Cheers,W

very true it is a ute but can be very full when on a jaunt and when its loaded i would like easy access to it like on the swing out gate style spare wheel carrier from a pathfinder or bronco without spending big dollars.

roof rack idea is cool but if my wife (handbrake) got a flat she would have a fun time climbing up and down with it.
cheers
