Submitted: Friday, Sep 01, 2006 at 19:25

On Patrol

Just bought a new Gunyah awning and now cannot decide which side to mount it, what a hell of a problem????

Her indoors wants it on the drivers side and I cannot decide as I can find as many pro's & con's to both.

Has anyone out there got a Gunyah awning or any awning, and what side do you preffer and WHY?

Please help me save my marrage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cool idea, and while I'm about it I can also put one across the back and the corners and have a the only colonial car with a verandah all around it. She will be pleased, until the Visa bill comes in.

Mr On Patrol ,

I have mine on the passengers side because I have a fridge next to the rear door ( I have taken out the seats and put in a flat cargo floor ) . Now if I have it up , it is shading the fridge and if it is raining , I can access the fridge in the dry .

I think you are more likely to go to the passenger side doors when you are stopped , so if you have it on that side most things will be closer ( maybe ! )

The main reason for my choice though , is that my 3m alloy side pole ( alloy tube ) is bolted to the roof rack legs and would have fouled the snorkel if I had put it on the drivers side .

It is a simple affair and the tarp is tied to the pole running along the roof racks .
It is 5m long and needs two tent poles in the middle and then drops down to the ground or out to two handy trees . Room to put a couple of swags under in the rain or good shade if there is no trees at the camp .

Cheers ,

Willie .

LOL whats the stress ....... get a his and hers one, that way she can have the cooking and cleaning stuff on the passenger side hehehe and you can have the BBQ and hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm BEER :).

Just make sure the chain does not reach around to your side of the car LOL.

Only kidding ........... I'm for the drivers side ...... cause i mostly go by myself and thats where I put the immediate stuff i want. All my tools recovery spares etc etc are on the passengers side.

You have answered your own question............

Quote: "Her indoors wants it on the drivers side"...................say no more.

You are either very brave or very foolish to even be considering the passenger's side. hahahahaha

However, if you would personally prefer it on the passenger's side, then maybe you need to try a bit of reverse phycology (okay, I know it's not spelt right....I did the spell check thing and it didn't even have an suggestions as to the correct spelling....WTF???!!!).

What I mean is, whack it on the driver's side and then make out that it's the best thing since sliced bread and you're really glad she suggested it go on the driver's side. (I'm assuming she is usually the passenger??). Eventually she'll get jealous of you having the benefit of it on your side and DEMAND you move it to her side..... hahahahahahaha

I've got mine on the passenger side as the kids have been taught to exit and enter the vehicle from the passenger side. So a bit easier to have on that side so the kids can play under it and still get there stuff from the car at the same time.
