Rob, buy the 4x4 Trader or Just 4x4 magazines and every month there is one Toyota dealer selling genuine radiators for around the $500 mark. Cheap insurance if you are about to head off on a round Oz trip.....especially since we are coming into summer. Good luck.

Ho Rob

Call your local NATRAD 131723

Ask for a ADR Radiator. 4 Row should cost you around $400.00

Yep not worth muking around with, get a new one before you go, and if its aluminium, buy a copper and brass one, much easier to repair on the side of a track somewhere, if you get a stick through it or something.

Cheers pesty

Hi Rob,
For the sake of long term reliabity I would get a new one, replaced the radiator three years age on my 93 4runner and have had no trouble scince. With radiators you do one repair and 6 months later and they will find a new spot to crack. Ten years seems to be the average life of a radiator these days

Rob,

Do it while you can at your leisure rather than bush repair. The cost of repair now is nothing compared to getting recovered from a remote area.

I'd take the radiator to a good radiator shop.
Replacing the top tank with a new top tank is pretty common, and not expensive. The aftermarket tanks are also a bit thicker than the original Toyota ones. While the tank is off, the core can be inspected, and rodded if theres junk in there.

Given that yours is 13 years old, theres a fair chance you'll need a new core as well. If you're replacing the lot, I'd get the best core available, given that turbo'd 1Hz have been known to overheat.

You have had good service out of that radiator, and as others have said, just replace it. You don't want a cooked engine in the bush. I'd also suggest having a low water alarm fitted at the same time for peace of mind.
