diesel power chip

Have just returned from a week snow ski holiday down south.
Invested in a diesel power chip and installed by Gympie ARB/Diesel tuning. Had the unit dyno tuned and what a difference.
Excellent results with unit set to level 4. Bottom end acceleration greatly improved and less 480 revs at 100km/hr.
The unit and dyntoune only cost $1,100 including fitting and dynotune.
Dtronic was going to cost me $1600 fitted without tune.
This diesel power chip does the same thing and is a lot less to buy.
Glad I looked around and listened to Simon of Gympie ARB
/Diesel tune.
Would recommend one of these units to anyone.

I'd love to see how a "power chip" can have an effect on engine rpm at a particular speed seeing as engine revs are dictated by the drivetrain gearing and tyre size only.

Almost every tuning of any engine which results in more power
also results in more heat .. you have to take precautions
by using other mods like bigger exhaust, intercooler or such to
lower EGT ... optimised air intake gives you also a bit more power
but less increase in EGT .. you should have a temp gauge for your
cylinder head and watch it especially when you have different programs
and run it at max .... chips do nothing else than to modify the program
for your engine .. something the manufacturer could have done but did
not because the engine was not built for it ... it will reduce life expectancy
of your engine if not combined with other measures ...

a chip does not run an engine at its optimum ... more likely a bit on the hot side
remove kitty, block egr, exchange standard air intake, use larger exhaust
with smaller pipe at the end (higher flow), add dual manifolds, turbos and
exhaust and then tune it using a tech2 or such .. then we might talk optimum
but with all stock and just a chip you risk damage if you run it too hot all the
time ... but each to his own .. I admit its nice to dial in 120+ hp in 3rd step
when you want it ! but do you need it ? I was under the impression that the OP
had more efficient engine run as a priority but I may be wrong ...

couple of weeks ago at the local ARB was told about a bloke who went for max power chip in 7.3 powerstroke so he could carry and tow way too much gear. He then used all that free new power and you guessed it, cooked the lot.

Seems he was using a imported US chip with a snorkel, this was assesed to be the main cause. Appearently Safary specifically do not warrant snorkel/chip combination. The cost was about 25k to fix

There is obviously a lot in this induction/compression/exhaust process which is why untold billions of research dollars have been invested in it over the last 100 or so years.

not convinced about the knowledge and skill of some ARB shops or OL shops for that matter ... it's an interesting comment you make about the snorkel ..
wonder what the reason might be ? slower airflow, warmer intake? less efficient burn and higher EGT ? would be interesting to measure EGT with or without snorkel... I have ordered a K&N air intake for my truck with a circular filter .. not so much for power and cooler intake but for easier clean of air filter from red dirt ...
I will see if I get any real difference in EGT after installing it .. sure its vague because ambient temp etc. varies but they claim up to 200F decrease in EGT and thats a lot.
Well I don't believe it though but we will see ...

I have a 3lit Nissan turbo.
Simon (the dynotune specialist) which works in with Gympie ARB (NOT part of them) did suggest that a 2 and half inch exhaust system would be better with this chip. Sorry for not putting it in original post but I have a 3lit turbo diesel Patrol. For the doubters - try it before you knock it. He also said if you go any higher than level 4 you will use more fuel but get more power and engine would run hotter. Level 4 ran best all round and is indicated on on dyno graph.
