Pathfinder Towbar re post 37086

As we posted two weeks ago, when we learnt of Pelbo's experience we immediately contacted our dealer and Nissan Australia. We were concerned that our towbar had been found to have two loose bolts . Also a Nissan spokesman told us that the Nissan towbar was not suitable to use with a WDH, a direct contradiction of what we were told when we purchased the vehicle. We felt that no one would tow a 3 tonne van without a WDH.
We have received no reply from Nissan.
However our dealer agreed to refund the cost of the Nissan towbar and we have had the much sturdier Hayman Reese towbar installed. We now feel much safer towing our 2 tonne van.
We would recommend that anyone purchasing a Pathfinder as a tow vehicle installs a Hayman Reese towbar, which is guaranteed for 300k down weight and 3 tonnes pull using a WDH.
We are amazed at the lack of urgency of Nissan's response, given the potential for serious accidents in the event of tow bar failures such as Pelbo experienced.

We are going to get a Hayman Reese for our Patrol. The old one must be a Nissan as HR said their name is clearly visible on their products and i can't find anything on this one; Patrol was purchased 2nd hand.

It did not last the distance pulling our caravan, and as the auto Patrol is listed to tow 2.5 t, it may have only been suitable for up to that weight. We have the WDH bars fitted. We were lucky not to do any other damage when it snapped (other than the safety chains which now need replacing).
