How come........there are so very few trips/gatherings.

GoneTroppo Member (FNQ)

With a membership of lot's and a readership of lot's more how come trips/gatherings are so few and far between?

That's it........ simple question. No ulterior agenda
I wait with interest to hear your thoughts

I tend to agree with Bob, locals here in SEQ have exchanged emails with each other on earlier gatherings and a few drives have even been done without posting a gathering here also.
It takes one individual to get things going in your own region and the rest will fall into place if there is enough likeminded and keen people in your part of paradise.
Basically......Organise one for yourself and get FNQ happening, everyone I've met off this site has been a welcome addition to my "friends" portfolio hehehe.

Basically this isn't a club

We are all individuals doing our own thing.

There have been some memorable get-togethers however, between the SA and VIC mobs.

I have met quite a number of EO forumites mainly by chance, and living halway between everywhere has also helped........LOL

It could be like real estate.

Location location location ...... and then toss in, time factor, family commitments, funds, work, responsibilty in organising one, and then bugger the unknown factor (Murphies Law).

And how do you organise one, is there anywhere to say hwo its to be done or people just wing it:) I'm doing one but have linked an event which people are interested hopefully from there we will make our own entertainment :)

I don't know Gone Troppo - perhaps there is pressure related
to some unstated expectations.

To much talking , need opportunity.

For those near Melbourne I propose cup of coffee and chat at
Glenburn roadhouse 1 hour out of town on Yarra Glen to Yea rd
this sat morning 10am.
(be there or be square <- well thats what we said 30years ago when I in 20's)

Actually its 1 hour drive for so me so only go if 2 or so commit.

From there can go home, but I will also plan lazy afternoon non-challenging drive
to Yarck area where will light fire and chat, or something similar
if wish.

Crackles replied:

I'd suggest some members would be a little cautious in running trips mainly as they don't know who will be coming along, their true 4 wheeling ability or how prepared they & their vehicles are. ExOz attracts allot of novices to the game wanting to learn so putting a member trip up guarantees there will be several people with absolutely no idea what they are doing. Whether a trip leader wants it or not there is a fair bit of responsibility & ultimately liability should something go wrong.
As a club trip leader I have more say in who is capable of going on a certain standard of trip & club rules have a minimum training expectation.
Also there is a large proportion of people posting on this site not even game to use their own names so I for one would find it hard to offer a trip to individuals who hide behind an alias.
Cheers Craig.............

Most of us are members of 4WD clubs outside EO and don't really feel the need to do extra trips...............however when a trip is posted it is usually a great event.
