nice areas you have picked and should be done by the time the sw hits the coast. as for inland - mt augustus is ok and the roads are suitable for caravan. around marble bar itself can park the van in marble bar and journey to the old airstrip at corruna downs and have look around at kittys gap and a swim at coppins gap (just watch out for the mining stuff - machinery everywhere). good camping along the fortescue as well and some places ok for a caravan. have a look at the 'new' book on pilbara trips from the people who publish western 4wheel driver - some good trips but you need to park your van and use it as a base. have a nice time - i was just up that way playing and wish i was still there - or anywhere for that matter. rgds

Go out to the old Comet gold mine at Marble Bar; they run tours daily, and explain the processes of gold mining and refining. A great display of WA gemstones there too. All very interesting. That is if it is still the same as when we went there 3 years ago. I just love the inland areas.

I take it you've been to the Karajini? If not, do spend a few days there. The Chichester-Millstream are two adjoining but very different NPs well worth going to as well if you haven't been through that way.

I enjoy the Ningaloo coast much more than the now over-populated Coral Bay, which is not what it used to be.

For camping spots, do you have Jan Holland's Priceless Campsites? If not, get a copy from the ExplorOz book shop.

Make sure you take a bucket when you go to Marble Bar so you can wet the rock. That way you'll get a good look at the different colours. It's pretty dull when dry.

The old flying fox on the way out to Marble Bar Pool and Commit Gold Mine is worth a stop in too, I think it's got a road there now days...

Bowls gorge was fanatastic, but I doubt you'd be able to go there..?? Unsure if it's now a popular place or not, I remeber in the 80's dad used to take us out there, was a rough as guts trip with the tracks dissapearing for k's at a time and only knowing where to go would get you there in the end... Anyone know if there is a formal track out there now days??
