Canopies

The Landy

Just had the canopy for my Defender 130 finished. Built by Dave's Metal Products in Sydney. To anyone in the market for something similar I'd have no hesitation in recommending Dave Vella. Very professional in his approach and work.....

That's a great looking canopy Landy. Detail pics in your profile show there has been planty of thought in it.
Similar concept to what I'm currently dreaming about for my next 4B, probably to be built on an extended Patrol (or possibly LC) ute.

Did you design it?

Hi Norm

Well some thought went into it, but to be honest the big challenge was to keep it simple. The risk is you can over design something like this.

We tried to use space as best we could; we put a 70 litre water tank underneath it, and the trundle draw (well it isn't really) is just a shelf with a door on it where we can store poles and a table.

The top has checker plate on it so it can be used as a roof rack and it has been designed to take a roof-top tent should we want to use one.

Good luck...

Very, Very nice!

Practical and looks good!

Thanks for the info and photo's, have put Daves Metal Products into my contacts for reference when I ditch the current crewcab in favour of a cab chassis.

Good stuf Landy!!
But trust me, you'll never finish a canopy - always something that you can add or subtract. I spent some time today redoing some wiring in mine - dumping some of the excess wire that hasn't been needed, and simplifying it a bit.

I also have the rack on top. Keep thinking about a rooftop tent, but I can't help but think it won't work as well as our swag/ quick tent options that we've got down pat. I'd guess we'll do it one day, to see what its like sleeping up high.

Out of interest, what thickness aluminium did he use for the walls and sides?

Cheers

Hi Phil

It is 2mm with the frame reinforced in various areas, especially the top so we can put a rooftop tent up (should we want to).

You've got yourself one great looking rig! Thanks for the photos and the link; possibly needing a modified trailer in the not too distant future.
