Willem, the only things that come to mind are warrenty and any included maps issues. I still rekkon Honkers is a long way to go for a GPS. Just be sure that what you pay isn't as much as or more than you'll get it for here. It's easy to become distracted by bright lights (tell her to be careful of people slitting handbags and removing stuff when in the markets..takes a pair of em about 10 seconds to ruin a trip)

I bought a GPS12XL in HK in 2001. Also bought a video camera. Video was a bad move as I was talked into buying something that was "better" than what I wanted. I hadnt researched the "better" camera so dont know what I was buying. All was Ok but I didnt really get what I wanted.
With the GPS, I new what I wanted and got it at a very good price. About $400 when they were about $600-650 here. I had a problem with the lithium backup battery when i got back to Aus but Garmin were excellent and it was covered under warranty. They replaced it with a new one.
All I would say is know what you want and what it is worth.

It won't come with Garmin Mapsource - City Navigator Australia - Version 6 pre-Installed, I have no idea what could be installed on it , probably Hong Kong, and mainland China , the CD you will get with it will be useless here , so the Australian software will cost $349.00 inc. GST

I was in HK in Dec last year and found the prices about the same as Aus for brand name items or MORE for stuff that you would buy at the computer markets in Melbourne. Admittedly I didn't have enough time to hunt out the smaller stores but there just seemed to be far fewer around than the last time I was there a few years back.

As others have said, warranty and maps would be the issues.

If you want to find bargins, you really need someone who can speak cantonese to bargain. Also head to Shum Sho Bo and Wong Kok as they are the two areas better known for electronics, any other place and you'd be paying the same price as here :D

Given you might have warranty issues and the potenetial that you'll end up paying duty on it when you bring it in, you'd be better off to source locally.
