Hi Pete,
I bought a GPS12XL in HK in 2001. Also bought a video camera. Video was a bad move as I was talked into buying something that was "better" than what I wanted. I hadnt researched the "better" camera so dont know what I was buying. All was Ok but I didnt really get what I wanted.
With the
GPS, I new what I wanted and got it at a very good price. About $400 when they were about $600-650 here. I had a problem with the lithium backup battery when i got back to Aus but Garmin were excellent and it was covered under warranty. They replaced it with a new one.
All I would say is know what you want and what it is worth.
Regards
Ray
