Warranty void?

Ok I am now convinced a CC Patrol ute is the way to go for me.
The vehicle I am looking at is a 04 with 46000Klm. The service books show servicing every 10000klm except for the last which was 15000klm and the vehicle was owned by a builder. At what point does the warranty become void? I am pretty sure these vehicles are supposed to be serviced every 5000klms and most warranties are void if manufacturers service intervals are not followed. (I think)
So... would that not mean I would have no new car warranty with this vehicle?
The dealer is telling me it would not be a problem. I would like to believe him but just don't.

I have owned a TD42 diesel ST Patrol Coil Cab from new 2002. I had it serviced at the Nissan Dealer every 5000km for the first year. Nissan service department told me that if I am not driving in extremely dusty conditions only bring it in for service every 10000km's and this would not effect warranty.
The 15000 km service may be a grey area? Ring a Nissan dealership and talk to the New Vehicle manager and verify your warranty and get it in writing from the used car dealership you are thinking about dealing with.
I have clocked up 108000 including some very rough trips out into the interior and the only problem I have had was contaminated fuel that blocked the gauze filter in the fuel pump. I posted this problem and how to overcome it on this forum a few months back.
BTW I am still running on the original tyres?

If it was me I wouldn't be worried about the 10,000kms service intervals at all as nearly all the Diesel 4WD'S built in the past 4-5 years stipulate this as they use totally different oils than ones earlier, and face it, its only done 46,00kms (if speedo correct)

The thing that would be bothering me is the time the warranty commenced and how long is it.

eg, Commence Jan 04 - 3 yrs - expires Jan 07.

Also another consideration would be just what this 'truck' has been doing for those 46,000kms.

They could have been a very easy 46,000kms or the Paris - Dakkar with an Elephant in the back.

I would disagree with reply from Lucy.

ALthough most vehicles manufactured in the last 5 years say every 10000kms, the TD42 engine is old indirect injection technology that circulates a lot of suspended soot in the oil, that is why the manual stipulates 5000kms oil changes or even more often if driven in difficult terrain ie: dust etc etc...
If the push comes to shove Nissan can legally get out of honouring the warranty due to inadecuate servicing.
What is important is what is written on paper not what the sales guy said...
Check with Nissan as Truckster suggested but make sure that whatever it is, it is on writting....
It is unlikelly that you will have a problem, those engines go forever but... if you do it is a lot of money to fix an engine that has not been properly serviced... As everything gets affected by improper lubrication.

Write to your Nissan service agent and ask them could they do a full service to bring the vehicle up to date and then would they continue the warrantee. If you write to them then they should write back and you will not be raising warning flags by specifically demanding for the warranty in writing.

The dealer warranty is a very grey area, it all depends on the dealer , if he wants to warranty it or not. If you go to 4 dealers , expect 4 answers.

As far as covering your self , the vehicle does not need to be serviced by a dealer to cover warranty, it just needs to have been serviced. So you need to have a receipt of a service at the required interval .

You will find most dealers wont ask for it , as to them they are been paid anyway by the mother dealership. BUT it can get you unstuck if they decide for whatever reason they don't like you.

Nissan 4.2 Td oil change is every 5000km and filters every 10,000 I change both every 5000km and nothing nissan say will change that so get it in writing.Or take the risk if there is any Damm good motor,,

Thanks for the info guys. I checked with Nissan and they are happy with the 10000klm services and it turns out the vehicle was serviced during the 15000 gap just not recorded in the service book
