We live on Bribe and use a car wash in Caboolture or Caloundra - not very satisfactory, but all we can do without installing a water tank and pump. I use the pressure "Car Lovers" type of car wash - but remember, they are recycling a portion of their water (complete with diluted salt).

Other than that pray for rain and heaps of it on the dams.

Car lovers , Laserwash has an underbody option ,, just drive in Reeeeeeeel slow ,do the wash and the mega blast drying ,u wont find any sand left in any nooks or cranies ,, as for the yearly pass ,$100 , cheaper than 1 barge trip to Moreton.

A small 12 volt pump should do the trick. Put water in 10lt plastic paint bucket or such and maybe fit a sprinkler nozzle to the outlet. That way we will not be breaking the rules and you should be able to wash the underbody of your truck with ease

Hi, we live in the redlands and we are still on level 2 water restrictions, we can still use the hose to wash the car any time as long as it has trigger or twist nozzle, a high pressure water cleaning unit with a trigger nozzle and/or buckets filled directly from a tap. Do you know anyone in the redlands, maybe use their water if you cab.

The Queensland governments since they canned Wolfedene dam have been bragging about 1000 people a week moving to Qld and then not building the infrastructure (roads and dams) to cater for them. Down the road to me they are building a 20 storey residential tower, how much less water must I use to allow this building to operate? They I drive past car yards who wash their entire stock every morning. Fill a bucket from the tap, use a bilge pump and hose your car. OR - rust in a car is a safety issue, hose your car and threaten to sue anyone who tries to stop you on road safety grounds. You can hose boat trailer brakes and suspension and you can use a flusing device on your outboard, just where you draw the line on safety has not been tested yet.

Some interesting suggestions.

As it is so dry here I will also use a air pressure hose to remove most sand. There is little sand under the vehicle because it is so dry.

Then will attempt to run my high pressure cleaner from a bucket today. Do not know if it will work by sucking the water in but worth a try. This may also be beyond the legal limits that are applying with level 4 as I am restricted from filling my fish pond and the bird bath with tap water :(

We are expecting rain tonight so may look for some puddles in the road to drive through.

It wont fix your proble now but take advantage of the Water Tank rebates from the State Goverment and BCC it will cost you nothing after the rebateit
If you where a member I could send you the details of a Plumber that is doing this work for the rebate costs.

A word of advice to anyone who finds themselves in trouble with Brisbane City Council regarding water use-

I had just finished using the watering can to wash my vehicle a few months back when I had a "Water Inspector" approach me for unauthorised use of water. Turns out my B!TCH neighbour reported me for using the hose to fill my watering can.

I very calmly explained to the bloke that I was using the hose because it saved all the spillage associated with angling the can under the tap and trying to get most of the water in the small hole at the top of the can. I also pointed out how small the puddle was that had run off my vehicle. I made sure he noted these points in his note pad along with the fact that he didn't personally see me use the hose.

He then told me his notes would be reviewed before a decision was made to send me a fine in the mail or not. (A good way to avoid the confrontation of handing me the fine on the spot I thought).

A week later it came. $150 for my "first offence". Quite P!SSED OFF at this stage, I filled in the section on the back to have the mater heard in court, assuming that any magistrate with an ounce of common sense would see my point.

About six weeks after that I got a phone call from Brisbane City Council. The bloke asked me to confirm my intentions to go to court. When I did, he asked me on what grounds. I told him I would not discuss the matter over the phone and I would have my say in court.

Less than two hours later he rang back and told me BCC would not be pursuing the matter any further as the woman who reported me was not prepared to appear in court.

The main thing I would like to point out here is that unless the Council officer is prepared to say under oath that he personally seen you use water in an unauthorised manner, it'll be thrown out of court.

The stupid thing about these "Band aid" water restrictions is the same B!TCH that dobbed me in probably spends an hour in the shower each night. How would we know?

Interesting replies from various people. I live on the Gold Coast and think that using a bucket to wash a vehicle is more of waste of water than using a wash brush. To my knowledge there is no restrictions of how many baths a person can take in any one day.

Take as many baths as it requires to wash your vehicle. All you have to do is that you do not pull the plug but bucket the water out and use it to wash your vehicle with pumps etc as described previously. You can say to any water inspector that this is a conservation measure as you would normally pull the plug on your bath water and you should be congratulated for being a fine upstanding citizen. It is none of his business of how many baths that you take , or for that matter of how many baths other family members take per day. This way you get a squeaky clean vehicle and family. Regards G.T.
