Hi All
Has anyone fitted a Steinbauer to their 3 ltr patrol?
I was just reading the specs against the dtronic.
Steinbauer: 116kw to 142kw; 354NM to 425NM
DTronic :116kw to 133kw; 354nm to 420nm.
Steinbauer looks pretty good. Are they easily fitted? and how was the performance

Cheers Tim

Hi Tim,

I am getting a Steinbauer fiited to my 3.0ltr Patrol on Thursday this week.

The reason I went for this one (compared to others) is on the recommendation of the diesel workshop who works on my vehicle.

I can give you some initial feedback over the weekend.

Thanks

Hi Tim,

Good news and bad news

First, the good news - improvement in performance was amazing, I had torque from approx 1400rpm, smooth power, no twitchy throttle, and engine felt as though it was running a lot smoother.

Bad news - 45km into the drive home, the engine stopped. After calling installer at 6pm, who drove to where I was broken down, he had a look and determined I had no fuel.

So organised for tow back to his workshop, he did some investigation and found a main fuse under the bonnet had blown, causing enging to stop. (first time car has ever broken down)

He still has the car, is installing diferrent chip (in case original chip caused the blown fuse), and doing a full diagnostic check over car to try & understand why this happened.

Maybe it happened because of something else, not sure - but I did blow a fuse about 4 weeks ago which ran the cruise control.

Anyway, getting the car back monday arvo and will hopefully find out what caused the problem.

But I can say, if the performance I had for 45kn is anything to go by, then I will be rapt with the purchase

I will keep you informed

Thanks

Hi Tim, I have one and have had it since March and done over 20000ks with it since then. Most of that 20000k towing a van. As far as I am concerned it is one of the best accessories I have. I had a Dtronic before and sold it to get the P-Box they are chalk and cheese.

Hi Crow
I have been down and ordered one. Should get it tomorrow or thursday. $1305 fitted which sounds ok to me. Cant wait to see how much difference it will make. As long as SHMBO does not find out all will be good.

Hi Tim,

I have responed below to how chip install has gone.

As far as installation, the mechanic had to do the following

- Remove intercooler cover
- Remove fixing bracket under intercooler to access electrical connection
- Disconnect existing electrical connection and plug in unit between to original connections
- Find somehere to locate box, as my engine bay is pretty full with snorkels and 2nd batteries.
- Then bolt everything back into place

Thanks
