Prado fans,

Stopped at North Point Toyota in Adelaide as we are looking for a replacement for our VS. Anyway, they have a new D4D engined Prado in their yard. Badged as a GXL it had roof rails but no other body changes I noticed, also had D4D badges of course. Fuel economy sticker had 9.2l/100km, also it was an auto.

Better half already said "no" to trading our 2005 diesel in on one before I could get the whole question out......

Mick.

9.2 is pretty impressive. I thought the old model was about 12.

Hi Phil,

Yeah I was pretty impressed, 12.4 for auto and 11.6 for the manual with the 1kz motor.... However we have always had around 10.5 in our manual. Even 100% city we get 10.7ish.
Wonder what the figure for the D4D manual is... must be in the mid 8s surely.

Still not worth the change over though!

Wonder what the $$$ are for the new motor...

Drove an GXL auto version last Thursday. Very torquey. Has a good solid feel. Biggest impression was the incredible quietness!

I saw the very same car - they have tinted windows now as std on the GXL (as well as those rails) - re the donk - seems that the torque figures are the same as the older motor, while the KW is up around 125 - bit odd thought I - they don't have any new technical spec flyers yet - presume its the same as the Hilux motor but it may be chipped differently. Whatever .................

Hi Darian,
I think the torque band is much wider - max torque comes in much lower, like about 1400rpm, which is why it feels torquier.

Thanks for the information fellas ordered a new GX D4D auto with option pack, the local dealer thought he could supply before christmas, but has just informed me it will be early Febuary, the good news is it will be 2007 plated for the same price. Friar.

I have the D4D in a new Hilux , gotta say how impressed I am with this engine. The gearing with the Auto is also impressive, it's so quiet at highway 110km/hr. Basically only doing 2000 RPM and so you don't hear it. The low down torque is also very good, however it pulls right through the rev range. I have been getting 9.7L/100KM despite the claim of 9.5. I would have thought 9.2L to 9.5L/100km would be what you would get.
