Hi folks, a lot of you will know I have a project car (Toyota Blizzard 2.2 n/a diesel).

I am interested in people's opinion as to tyre size, will 33's be too big and suck too much power from this small powerplant? It only has a top speed of 80-85kph so maybe the gearing is OK for 33's in this instance???

I am thinking of adding some drop shackles from Superior engineering and am also interested in peoples opinion of these products or if there is other manufacturers selling similar equipment.

Thanks in advance, Trevor.

Do a search for Daihatsu F10 or F20 (?) elsewhere and you might have better luck (Toyota simply rebadged the Daihatsu product).

Try www.outerlimits4x4.com in the Daihatsu section as a starting point.

I had a Blizzard about 7 years ago.I had standard rims and tyres on it.I am amazed that you can only get 80-85kph top speed.Even when I was fully loaded I had no trouble reaching and cruising on the speed limit.I took it to Fraser Island once with a trailer hoohed up and I still could cruise at the limit. The hills slowed me down though.

Hi Mike,

Mine is only a 4 speed so if yours was a 5 speed then there's the difference. I really just want to turn this beast into an offroad weapon, which is why I was curious as to the 33' tyres and drop schackles. It had no probs up Teewah beach just before xmas, so now I have a bit more faith in the car's reliability, the work will begin.
Thanks for your input, happy new year.
Regards, Trevor.

All blizzards were 4 speed. Had same motor and running gear as first series Hiluxs. SAhould do 100ks easy enough . Cousin had one 20 years ago and I thought it would do about 110

Thanks Pete,

I have seen some identical Diahatsu cars with 5 speed boxes but they don't have the driveline handbrake like mine so unless I do big changes I can't slot a 5 speed in mine. My speedo tells me at 90kph (80 by my GPS) the car is revving at 3600rpm and it feels and sounds like it LOL!! For any length of time that just seems cruel to me??? Maybe something amiss with mine???

Cheers Trevor.

Hi Trevor,
We would have only been going off the speedo them days,. My 4runner is also pretty optermistic when it comes to speedo readings. Your currant tyres would be about 28in?. I would try 31s first as I think tou will need a big increase in power for 33s.We just went from 265 70 15 to 10rs which is a similar tyre but l.t. and 75 profile on Sals Pajero and I could not believe how much string it took out of 4th especially towing the boat. If you give me your email address I can send you Phills Ph. no. as he had a blizzard for years and loved it
Cheers Pete
