Patrol fuel consumption

Just finished return trip, Karratha-Perth-Karratha, and was impressed with the big girl's drinking habits. In the heat of the day, into the breeze, 16-18l per 100km, and at night 14-16l per 100km. It's amazing what a bit of cold air can do!
Happy new year!

how ya goin Wayne,
Is your patrol pet/dsl?
I know I will spark outrage, but MY theory is a snorkel would make a difference in similar circumstance because it is drawing air from outside ,not under bonnet and you yourself has reinforced this theory by your feul figures changing from day to night.
Another thing, where you behaving, or being a little flamboyant with the speed limit on the open?

its diesled, you can check the specs by clicking on rig & profile link.
yeah i think a snorkel would make some difference, as well as water to air intercooler, as the air to air is better than nothing but when the breeze blowing through it is 40c plus?? an yeah 110kph all the way, so i was happy

In specs, it makes no mention, except about a turbo timer.
An intercooler will make a far more noticeable difference as the other post explains, and a snorkel seams to make a little difference to some and no difference to others, have fun sorting who's right/wrong

Fuel consumptions sounds a little thirsty for Hwy cruising, were you towing as well?

It will make a difference to fuel consuption at night, as the air is denser,Engine Pro-Formance will also improve slightly .

A Good Front mount Air to Air intercooler would be the way to go, just look at all the Big Power turbo cars they run Front mount Air to Air Coolers over Air to water coolers.

Do not disagree with your snorkel theory Shane although I have heard there may be some benefit from the 'ram air' effect. The Patrol actually does not draw its air from under the bonnet but in front of the LF wheel, well the TD30 does anyway.

Hmm,
My recent trip from Perth-Pt Hedland-Perth with the Patrol fully loaded, full length roof rack with loaded roof bag, 5 passengers, A/C on full all the way returned me with figures of 12-13l per 100klms, This is with a manual 3.0ltr sitting on 100klms per hour. Cant wait to see what I get when the Gas is put on next week. I then have a trip to Geraldton and back soon after so the test for the power and economy will be very interesting.

All the Best

DJ!

i guess naturally a bigger engine uses more fuel. I think the bigger tyres have made a differnce to the fuel as well. let us know how the gas goes!

Hey,
Yer I'm running 305/75 Cooper ATR's big and mean!. Yer I will keep you posted on how the whole Diesel/Gas thing works out. I have my Federal and State Gov rebate forms all ready to go...$3000 rebate means I just pay $1300 ( Would have only been $1000 but cost extra $300 to modify the ehxaust for where the gas tank goes. The guys at Lovato Auto Gas (DieselGas Australia) assure me I will be getting at least 25% more torque and power as their experience has proven to gain better results than any of the performance chips!!!And it looks as though I will be able to travel around 1300-1400klms before refills..Yay a visit to the servo just once every 6 weeks.

Cheers

The TD30 uses about 12l/100km on that trip and 12-13l/100km towing a camper trailer sitting on 110kph.
