Hi,
Question does anyone know anything about portable battery jump start/air compressor packs? I have just bought my husband one and hope I have bought one strong enough to jump start a Nissan Patrol 3.0 turbo diesal engine. It says 500 crank power. It has 18amp power and charges on either 12v or househould adapter (240v???) Also does anyone know how long it should take to pump up a repaired (tubed) tyre on a 4x4 tyre using an air compressor. The air compressor I have bought can reach 300 psi. Is that enough?

If it is a genuine 500 CCA (cold cranking amp) battery pack it should start the Patrol, but you should probably recharge after each use and periodically when not used. I have a 500 CCA battery pack that I used to use to start an old diesel (Fergie 135) tractor. If the pack was properly charged, it managed fine.

The air compressor question is a 'how long is a piece of string' type. Speed is more determined by litres per minute than maximum pressure.

The 300psi is not a problem as you only need say 45psi max for your tyres.
As mentioned litres per minute gets the volume of air needed to inflate the tyre .
Some cheaper 250psi compressors will take 15 minutes to do the job or longer if they need a rest to cool down.
I think you should be prepared to buy a separate good compressor as a future present. ($200-$400) if you plan to do a bit of sand work (desert /beach)
Cant help with the jump start although it can be handy for lights around the camp.
We have used our auxiliary or van battery to back up the starter battery at times.
Have fun
