I have before Posted about these little beauts but I think most of you have not the faintest idea what I'm refering to, So I have done a display page with a few samples on it , ie Tyre sizes, weather, computer System utilities. Car Service Record, and Geocaching tool, there are 1000s to browse through so must be something 4x4 related in there other than a tyre size calculator, I also have the explanation as to just what they are and what they do, I have 3 sitting on my desktop at the moment and have them almost transparent , you don't have to have them all on the desktop , when bringing one up from the hard drive it is as the settings from last used , If you are only on Dial up don't worry about it as the Engine Download is 10.7mb

Doug,
Agree with ya mate. I have the wether and TV channel widgets running at home.
I also have an active desktop link to http://www.bom.gov.au/fwo/IDY00050.gif
Active desktop is a standard windows feature, configured through Desktop -> Properties|Desktop|Customise desktop. Assiging the above link to it give me a whole of Oz synoptic chart on my desk top. Very good indeed for having an idea on what the wethers going to do.

Don't worry John, Telstra are just testing their new remote area setups. Broadband and 3g yadda yadda. One of the spots that may test it is Birdsville. So hopefully its coming to a location near you. (yeah, right do I hear you say ?)

F'loosie, maaate, they have two Telstra towers within close range, well 12 kms of here and one not quite line of sight so an external antenna would do that - well almost. Just that I think I should get broadband at the same cost as you.

Birdsville indeed, wow am sure some will enjoy that. Can get 2-3 bars from the office with Heather's Next G mobile. Mind you I can get as many with my digital one just by moving my head sideways. As soon as we are ready to travel a bit we will get one of the systems, my local computer doctor is supposed to be getting a USB modem and reporting back to me. That way it is able to be transported with the laptop and also be used on the server.

Hey John, have you checked if you are eligible for the satellite broadband subsidy ?? A mate at lancefield has it, only pays the normal broadband access - 50 odd a month, 2 year contract - subsidy is over 4 grand i think he said !!! You just need telstra to verify they cannot supply normal broadband to you. He got it through a mob in Albury which do them statewide, great service and backup.

cheers Brad.

Brad, under the earlier proposal we certainly were eligible for the subsidy but I guess I want to assure myself of mobile broadband too. I guess that means not to carry a wacking great sat dish just so I can log in. It would be a hell of a break too for the number of people that email me to change the email addy. I know about Gmail and Fastmail and all that but I have the current box that I do rely on. I guess that means I stick with Bigpond!

Brad, I like the idea of sat for the speed but know that those things also turn their backs on earth occasionally too. I guess that means another rason why I prefer land systems.

If I go with Next G I can log in where ever there is a phone tower and those things are getting wider distribution these days. More places to camp, but I guess the remoteness is lessening too.

Thanks mate, yes have thought of one of the providers like that. I would want two way sat, and thats not so inexpensive either and a 1 gig account.
