landcruiser front seat

I would like to change the front standard one and a half passenger seat in my 79series l'cruiser to a more comfortable bucket seat with a console between the seats.
Just wondered if some one could help me with the most practical way of doing this? Would the passenger seat from an 80 or 100 series fit?
Thanks for the help.
Cheers Tony

I have a 75 series '94 troopy and was told a number of years ago (I think it was by an ARB agent) that on the 75 there are nuts already welded to the floor pan but the holes havent been drilled through. The 79 may be the same. If this is the case u may be able to get hold of a template for there locations. I had a quick look underneath with a mirror and I think I could see the nuts. As for 100 & 80 seats I don't think the brackets would be the same. You might be better off with an after market seat-(template may even be avaliable with purchase.)

Tony,
I went with a set of second hand Recaros and had them fitted by Willshires in Adelaide. Cost about $650 the pair for the seats and $290 each to custom fit them with runners and a new seat belt mount. Those captured nuts for the RHS rear passenger runner bolt aren't there any more :-(( The Recaros can be reclined forward with a lever either side which is handy.

I made my own plywood console and glued it with carpet to cover up my dodgy handiwork! I used two pushbike drinkbottle holders to hold our water bottles at the front of the console (more practical than cupholders).

We're happy with it.

Doesn't the RV spec 79 series come with two bucket seats (I could be wrong
on this though).

If that's the case, I would have thought locating a pair of these seats from a wrecker would be a cheap/easy way to go. The mount points are likely to be the same.

Thanks John, Yes the RV spec does come with bucket seats and it would be an easy solution but wreckers i spoke to awhile ago had none in stock.Might be time to try again.

Not sure about the 80 but I took the 1 1/2 out my 100 standard and put bucket seat and console in. Before I fitted it I tried to sit it in 75 ute and it was far to bulky. I know the 78 / 79 have more cab space but it would be tight.

I only replaced the one in the 100 series as previously said. I left the 1 1/2 in the 75.
