Transporting a loaded 4WD from Sydney to Alice Springs

Hi All,

Does anyone know of a car carrier who will transport a fully loaded 4WD from Sydney to Alice Springs? Most carriers that I've investigated require that your car have no personal items in it for insurance purposes. They also require that roof racks be removed.

Due to limited time, was hoping to send the truck ahead to Alice Springs, then fly in from Sydney and pick it up.

Have you considered renting one in Alice ? Ends up being much cheaper AFAIK.

There were some guys on Overlander that teamed up and hired a low loader to ship their vehicles to Cairns. I think it was Slunnie. Won't be cheap though.
Have you looked at rail freight?

Northern Territory Freight Services operate Road Trains between Adelaide and Darwin and have a depot in Alice Springs. I think they will be well connected to load your vehicle from Sydney.

I think they require no personal items as they leave the vehicles unlocked at all times OH&S ??

But anyway, I couldn't think of a better reason to take more time off work :)

I've used Campbell town carriers before & they have taken my 6x4 dual cab patrol fully loaded to N/Qld & the train will take it to SA & maybe the Gan to Alice
But everything had to be inside, the friend i went with shipped he's patrol with roof rack with gear but it had to be Hard packed for insurance reasons, so we made a ply box painted it black when we got there unscrewed the box & on our way. we have also shipped the rack & gear by courier/removalist & picked it up at the depot in the town the vechiles were shipped to.

You can also take out your own transport insurance is normally a lot cheaper i have a blanket cover for any 1 shipment to the value of $??? so I can ship it & other items for a LOT less than the transport company will charge, they will also carry items out of the norm as it is not there policy, & i have never had a claim.

Good luck I know what it is like not having the time to get there & back & for the kids putting up with the first 2 days & the last 2 days Non stop
