New fuel pump for FJ60.Mechanical or electronic??

Rowen

howdy folks...

Hows things?

Just a quick question if i may.

My old 60 series cruiser's fuel pump is leaking some oil at the seal somewhere & so i need 2 replace it. i hear alot of talk about electronic is the way 2 go if possible but is that an easy option for the 60 series? they dont come readily available do they? id imagine ive got 2 replace it with a new mechanical one right?

i see the cost was about ~$150. anyone know of somewhere to get them cheaper? are they worth getting 2ndhand from wreckers etc?

Cheers & thanks for your feedback (in advance)

Ro,

This would have to be a petrol motor. A diesel pump would be in the thousands of dollars.

A second hand pump unless recondition would not be any better that the one you have.

You have a 4wd spend the money and get a new one at $150.

I had an FJ60 series a few years ago that was duel fuel. I could only get it started on petrol and then change over to LPG once the engine was running. Silly me I never changed over to petrol before putting the car to bed and consequently the carby was empty the following morning.
To overcome the excessive cranking to fill the carby I installed an electric pump that was in series with the mechanical pump. Worked very satisfactory.
