Yeah! It kind of reads like that Andrew, but no..Get's pretty cold but..We used to ride horses to school near Chinchilla (when I was six and aagain when I was 14) the reigns got freezing on the way to school in winter.Westerlies! August...Trouble is,we had to "steer" them all the several miles through scrub to school, hands out front in the cold,on the way home after school, not cold now, did'nt even need to hold the reigns..Funny how sometimes, little things are back to front..

Hi RockyOne,

We stayed there last year. It has been developed into a proper tourist spot now.

The bunkers are built into the side of the mountain and are well secked out as accomodation.

They also have train carriages set up as accompdation and a well stocked camp kitchen and caraan park for those who want to camp.

There are still some bunkers that have not been modernised and walks around the base of the mountain to explor them.

We found the area enchanting.

Thanks, you guys..We plan to stay ther on a trip to Bris (van show) end March..As a 15yr old,we climbed a watch tower at Columboola once..All wood from,WW2. One wooden leg of four was partly chopped through (hoons?) and all the wood steps were getting rotten, had to just step lightly on the bearers..Guess we needed danger/adventure at that age..Good view from up top though..Yanks had put all roads made out of local soil & gravel through the place..Gues there would have been hundreds of tents, storage & troops there..Tower is gone now I believe..We found hundreds of rusted three "pettaled flowers" that,no doubt, held three cannon shells with a long bolt through the centre..Ger the drift?

Hi Trevor R ! When my new bride (only ever had one) and I called there in our 1200cc 36hp VW beetle, I took a photo of her holding our little baby son in one of the "raw" round roofed caverns..He is now 39yrs (she has'nt aged at all,of course)..I never realised.'till I looked up on www that there are apparently, around twenty of those m/made caves around there..Can't wait to see the new version, which is crazy,as we drive past there aa few times each year..

They've got a nice little campground with powered sites that's suitable for all types of rigs. Lovely spot, but was pretty dry when we camped a couple of years ago.

The Butcher in town (just over the bridge on the right) has some of the best steaks I've ever eaten... :-)))O
