The online booking system answers the problem for folks who pay over $300.00 for a car and camper to get to the island only to find no sites available. A friend of mine is a ranger on the island and they are hoping this helps manage that situation as it causes them some huge headaches. My mate was telling me one of the probvlems they have is that one person will go over and place tents on a number of sites with no occupants in them until their friends arrive which can be several days later. In the meantime folks arrive who want to stay but can't get a free site. These are the sorts of things that they are hoping to stop.

You can download the whole report at the link I posted and it is worth a read. We get ovet there more than half a dozen times a year and I am hopeful that the changes will be OK. Time will tell.

Brian ,cant for the life of me see how a 1440 limit is an increase , would have been 2x that amount of bodies just at Comboya point over newyears eve never mind the rest of the island , we go over on average 3-4 times per year for a min of 7/10 days each time , been geting a bit too crowded so we are all for the "book the site" , will just make it a bit hard for those who dont "know" the island ,, bit like the campsites on the beach at Bribie , if you dont know you can end up not fitting the c/t in to the site youve booked what then ?/.
