We are 3months in to our 6 month trip. It has been great, but you have to keep moving. We have not done anywhere near as much fishing as we planned, but you need to be flexible and accept the compromise. There are still going to be lots of opportunities for fishing. There is just so much to see - fishing has had to take a back seat.

For us - we are young, and it is a great opportunity to see alot of places, and work out what you like (or not) - we can always come back. It is time out from routine, and time with our kids (8 and 10).

We left from Perth at the end of December, and have just arrived in Airlie Beach Qld. From here, we go to Hamilton Isl for a week, then up the Qld coast to Cape York (wet permitting). From there, down through Mt Isa to Alice, up through NT, over to Kimberley and Northern WA and then when around 1500km north of Perth, we will hook it straight home. Within 1500km of Perth is easy range for future trips.

Hi FZJ 80.

My parents set out on their first grey nomad, 2 week after my boy was born.

Thay said they were going from Darwin to Albany and back in 3 months, well it took 3 months to get to Broome.

They eventually got to Albany and the had to rush back for the young fella's 1st Birthday.

We did a trip 1/2 way around Oz in 6 weeks, we planed 8 but things come up.

We spent time at places that we had planed to go to but we did rush it, the good thing is that we get 4 1/2 months a year of so plenty of time to travel.

We spent many many weeks on the road in our 30's/early 40's with 3 kids including GRR and East Coast, last trip was`done with son at 17, (never again, except he now has 2 kids and a dog), but it was the best time of our lives, and only tonight I was speaking with 17 yo. now 26 and pilot in Broome, and all agree do it as a family.

Off to Broome for 3 weeks late April with Caravan and LC with just wife and the "grand dog" for the first of our "pre -retirement" trips.See you in Broome in May!

Hey,

Sounds great - nothing like a big trip to put life into prospective. As I am on the west coast there are a few bits that most people miss that are just fantastic:
Karijini - simply fantastic, huge gorge system.
Cape Leveque or even the coast road up there
Coral Bay - more marine life than the barrier and right on the beach

Enjoy and if you want local info on the areas before you arrive just drop me a line
