Bridgestone AT/D693 tyres

Submitted: Friday, Sep 28, 2001 at 00:00

Gary

We are planning an extended trip around Oz and my tyres are almost bald. We own a 1990 turbo deisel Pajero Long Wheel Base superwagon (so they call it!). Is this a good tyre choice? Do they represent decent value for money? Any suggestions as to other tyres that you feel are a "must consider"?? All comments welcomed. Thanks. Gary

Gary, don't know about bridgies, but I have had Goodrich A/T kos on my 99 jackaroo for a couple of years now. They have been on some really bad surfaces including the Flinders, B/ville Track twice, Pedirka track (extreme) and the Qld roads from the Wari Wari gate to Innamincka with no flats. I have done about 40,000 km on this set. They are also first class on the bitumen, wet or dry, city or country. not too much noise or noticable increase in harshness of ride. They are not the cheapest around, but from my experiences with them, it's no wonder so many serious off-roaders use them. Happy trails, Mike.

Gary,

I have been running D693s on my '96 Pajero for a couple of years now and they have given me a top class return. They grip well and have not been damaged, even by stony tracks. I am going to have to replace them after maybe 40k but this is not the tyres fault, but rather the crappy wheel alignment that they were put through causing the outside edges to wear badly.

The dealer told me they had set them up 100% according to the book when I went back with the bad wear, and they checked them carefully again. Whe they were STILL wearing their outside edges I went to a different dealer who told me the first people had set it up great - if I was driving an HSV!

Wankers!

Anyway, when I replace them it will be with a new set of D693s - I love 'em.

We have put D693's on our 97 nissan patrol wagon. We done a trip towing a camper trailer to NT and we had a couple of problems but not with the tyres. We travel on 40klm dirt road daily for getting to work and bus runs and never had a flat tyre. Our last DD we got 50,000Klms. using them on the same condition. These current tyres have done 15,000 klms since May this year and so far and they have hardly made an indent. Were pleases with our choice.

Hi Pat The tyre size is 225/75 R16. I'm unsure if split rim or not but I expect these are standard original Pajero wheels. Thanks for your response (and on my fridge query!!). Gary
