It's usually funny when it happens to someone else though. In defence of the Toymota. It is built for Australian conditions not Australian drivers.

How are you old friend. This city life is OK but I am feeling the need for some wide open spaces. A mate from the Hill sent me some pics of Umberumberka Res overflowing and that has really fuelled the itch.

On the up side I had a nice little flight up to the north east corner of NSW for work. That would not have happened while I was out at the Hill.

Sounds like Toyota has really under developed the new 78 series.

If the power and torque figures for the TDV8 looks the same as the 4.2TD motor, it's no coincidence. The plan is to leave the driveline (gearbox, axles, etc) untouched and just detune the motor so that it is no more powerful than the outgoing engine.

Smacks of a really cheap way of releasing a "new" model but basically reusing all the same stuff and charging a king sized premium for the entire package.

Toyota should have revised the entire drivetrain to suit the power output characteristics of this new motor. Like perhaps strengthening everything, including the same old weak differentials.

3.O LITRE DIESEL PROBLEMS
The early 3.0 litre engine was mostly a drama especially in government and ex police owned vehicles. Saying this there are some early models around still running fine and these are mostly well serviced privately owned vehicles. Some of the symptoms to look for are oil leaks around the front of the sump, oil ingress into the intercooler, air conditioner compressor problems, cracking suspension mounts, weak rear pan-hard rods, seat recliner handles loosening and falling off, rear suspension noise, clutch/dual mass flywheel dramas (see below) early like around the 65 000 km mark, 5th gear splines in the gearbox stripping off when towing or doing a-lot of highway work (this problem is with most Patrol gearbox's and supposed to be rectified after 2002), mass air flow sensor, fuel pumps (on early models 2000) and the biggest problem is pistons blowing. The main piston to blow is number 4 however we have had number 1 go as well mainly from over fuelling. Accessory belt hydraulic tensioner failing. Usually chopping out the bushes and at $200.00 to replace hurts the pocket. Most patrols have a tendency to drift off to the left and a castor correction plate fitted to the left side usually rectifies this. The Patrol wheel wobble is well known and after many attempts the underlying problem is still undiscovered. The steel wheel rims are the most probable cause but we come across loose front wheel bearings and scarcely grease packed bearings often on near new vehicles.

I haven't seen so many people bagging nissans and proclaiming the toyota is the best thing since sliced bread for a long time !!!!
And just from describing a mere observation at the local workshop , Strewth !!!!
I hope Toyota gives you guys a massive discount off the massively inflated prices of a new vehicle after coming back with those wobbly replies !

I have said it all along on this site , its always fine for the TOYOTA owners to bag the bleep e out of us Patrol owners over the well known 3litre problems and the 5th gear probs , and we cop it on the chin, however as soon as someone mentions anything about the untouchable TOYOTA watch the bullets fire I drive a Nissan because i like Nissans and its my personal choice ..not because Joe Blow thinks i cant afford a TOYOTA...i dont want a TOYOTA..just like TOYOTA owners probly dont want to own Nissans......But when certain people resort to racism and other snide comments its really getting beyond a joke .....so to all you idiots out there that cant take a joke or handle comments about a certain type of vehicle i say GROW UP and get a life ....or else just F*** OFF and go find some other forum to spit your dummies on Hell we are all supposed to be grown up adults here ..i havent heard this much dribble since i was a toddler in kindergarten ...hahaha
