Turbo oil cooler disconnection

Submitted: Sunday, Jul 01, 2007 at 09:22

chuka

I have not had an engine oiler cooler on my turbo 2h for some time but the cooler hose's have been looped. The adaptor the they are connected to also supplies oil to the turbo which I will have to maintain, can the cooler inlet/outlet ports be blocked of or should flow be maintained

all oiled up no where to go

you answered your question in the statement.... "some time" ....the 2h doesnt need one unless it is doing alot of towing in hot areas...most turbo systems dont use one with the 2h...however, if you have everything there, just buy one of about 50 coolers listed on ebay and hook it back up....cant do it any harm to run cooler oil

Thanks for the reply Dozer, the cruser seems to generaly handle it's workload with the aid of the cooler. but I want to discard the hose and plug the inlet / outlet on the filter bracket but am unsure whether it will bypass

Im not sure of the correct answer, i wouldnt just plug them until you have taken the adapter off and had a look at how it works...if all the oil flow passes that way, you would starve the motor...

Hey Dozer
I fixed the oil disconnection situation Today I purchased a 97 model GXL factory 5 speed turbo 24 valver at what I think was a pretty good price. Turns out it was traded Sat morning on a 100series, it is a one owner country car full service history up to 200k (has 320 on the clock)
factory options and no backyard mods, and the cleanest engine bay ive ever seen for a bushy. OME set up with pretty coloured rubber bits, No smoke ,no oil leaks and oh what a feeling! Anybody Interested in a slightly use 85/60 series 2h AIT Turbo AUTO

Slowly climbing to 4be ladder of success

No no srs on the steering wheel if thats any indication. But it did come with a power steering pump leak 4 hrs hour after the road worthy pass and 10klms in my possesion, Ive had to drain 1.8ltrs of oil from the sump upon checking the dip stick and put ten pound of air in one tyre that was noticable when I spotted it on saturday at the car yard. Where do these mechanics get of being reputable and expect follow up business especially on a basic roadworthy. Mind you I'll be ringing the dealer and claiming warranty in the morning 400 ks into our first road trip, Better take some p.s fluid with me as I bet I'll need it. Other than that life should be great.
Thanks Chuka
