Hello all,

Well the time has finally come, This Friday morning around 3am I’m taking off from Perth to Carnarvon with my family on holidays. I’m just wondering if anyone else out there happens to be also leaving at the same time and would like to join us as a convoy and company please let us know. I will be travelling with a full load and a trailer so I will not be rushing it.

All the best,
Stamps

Stamps, I would stay first night at Coronation Beach, $5 night, about 15 Klm north of Geraldton, so total of 435 Klm from Perth. Carnarvon is either 440 or 470 Klm north of Geraldton.
I usually stay at 'freebee' camps an the coast so I don't do it in the same day, I travel more or less to see the area's I pass through on my way to where-ever and some days only go a few Klms, when in Carnarvon I stay in town at Coral Coast c/v park, because you can walk to the main shopping centre in just a few minutes.

Drop into Port Gregory if your into a family fishing holiday to check it out, it's only a few K's off the Pink Lake road, or another really gr8 fishing spot, if your into fishing, name long forgotten (?? Bay) about 80K's further north about ½ way to Kalbarrie, you have to be in 4wd and prepared to travel on the beach or sand flats, but the fish are there.

From memory I think the WinterSun is out on the south/eastern side of the highway on the North side of town.
Visit the Tourist bureau and get information on the 'boiling water' spring just north of town, is a remarkable spot and to actually see fish swimming in steaming water that is far too hot to touch, makes you wonder what else is in the water below the earth. The ‘satellite’ dish on the hill is ok too.

A good meal is available at the Motel complex about ½ way into town, on the right, they have Gr8 ‘smorgasboards’ with different types of food on different nights of the week, Chinese was Wednesday and seafood was on Friday from memory, the best fish meal is from the pub on the way out to the fisherman’s warf area, not the pubs in town. (information accurate as at xmas ’06)

Hi Stamps,
At (+/-) speedlimit it will take about 4 hours to Geraldton and another 4 to make CArnarvon under ideal conditions (no caravan, light load etc), more if you stop for a squiz at anything.

Adverse weather conditions (headwinds, rain etc) will also have a noticeable effect on your travel times.

Why not stop overnight at the Murchison River crossing ( approx 50 km North of Northampton) and have an easy next day to Carnarvon.
