I just bought a pair of lights in Newman 2 weeks ago, threw the old sealed beams out , these are the Narva brand fits the same as a sealed beam and the connector plugs direct on the bulb , quite a marked improvement on the sealed beams,

One of my biggest regrets about now having a GU after owning a GQ, is the fact that I can no longer use a headlight that can be purchased from just every corner store right across the country!!!!

My old GQ had a pair of Hella headlight reflectors and I could chuck in any H4 halogen globes I could get my mits on. I settled on 110/90 after trying higher wattage globes that didn't take kindly to corrogations. They were the best lights I ever had, until I went the whole hog and got my Xenonoz HIDs in my current rig.

BTW.....how are you today Bonz; my hero!!!! (see Blaze's post about the Fire in the Big Desert if you don't know to what I am referring....hahahaha)

I had a set of Hella halogen inserts in my old GQ and they are better than the GU lights by 110% , I found using the 55/65 globes lasted 3 times longer than the 80w and above globes. corrugations and hi wattages don't mix

I gave up on 100/90 bulbs due to their short life.

Get +50 bulbs - they produce more light without drawing more current.

I've got the 7" IPF inserts, with the simple H4 Narva plus 50 globes. Thats a reasonable upgrade for $130+.

If you want better, then spend $150 on a set of the ARB fatboy globes, and slip them in the inserts.

If you want higher wattage globes, you'll need the wiring upgrade kit (just over $100).

ARB have a good range of options, and not as expensive as you'd think.

as Phil (SA) mentioned in his various options. I purchased a set of ARB fatboy inserts for my prado. seems to be a difference. the light is more intense on low & high. but is not as good as a good set of driving lights/spotties.

cheers Tom

I had the same problem with my 1995 HZJ75RV 75 Series Landcruiser. The lights were woefully inadequate.

I ended up getting a set of Narva Headlight inserts and 90/130W H4 globes to suit. Low and High Beam are now very very much brighter. Low Beam gives a much better spread and color than the "weak as urine" beam the standard factory halogens gave out. High beam was markedly improved in terms of penetrating distance and spread. Not too bad for a $180 investment all up including globes!.

However, I'm now researching the option of upgrading both my headlights and spotties to 55W 6000K HIDs.

I'm currently hunting around for a reasonably priced HID conversion kit for H4 (The idea is to use my existing Narva headlamp inserts and just change the bulbs) with HI and LOW beam (has to be some sort of shield mechanism for bulb or else there'll be a lag time for bulb to warm up and put out a useable beam - VERY DANGEROUS on a dark road!).

I'm also hunting around for a conversion kit for my H1 Oscar Cibies if anyone can help? :).

I'll probably have to put a headlamp washer kit too to satisfy ADR requirements for HID vehicle lighting.

Hope this helps.
