Sorry it took so long to get back to you James. You just compress the spring and the spacer sits on top of the spring around the top tower that locates the spring. There is no securing needed as the weight of the vehicle on the spring holds it in place. Tip; First disconnect your shockie and then put the spring compressors on the spring BEFORE you jack the vehicle up.That way when you jack the vehicle up the spring stays compressed. Jack the vehicle up past the point where the spring will easily come out and put the spacer up around the upper tower then replace the spring and lower the vehicle, replace shockie and repeat on other side. DON"T try to do both sides at once. Two compressed springs on the ground to trip over is not a good idea and whatever you do DON"T drop a spring under compression. I have seen what can happen.
