elevate the back end of my ute

I was told I can lift the back end of my v6 Holden ute by a friend. Will this create problems with ute when the van is not attached. Will it improve my towing greatly or should I be saving for a different car. A different car means I cannot travel for a year or so. My van is 18" I am a 60 yr old girl so do not want to waste money. And thank you to all those that responded to me last week.

IMO there are two part to this.

Yes you can get stiffer springs put on the back of your ute or fit airbag suspension (such as Polyair) to supplement your existing springs. The airbag option allows you to adjust the stiffness when your vehicle is loaded compared to when it is empty.

The other part is that with a van that size you really should be fitting a Weight Distribution Hitch to you set up so you can distribute the ball weight off the back wheels. Stiffer springs do not change this requirement, they serve two two distinctly different purposes.

In my opinion what Toolman said in response to your above question is dead right. When you hook your van up, the back of your tow vehicle goes down & the front goes up. This creates an unsafe situation in both the handling & the braking capacities of your tow vehicle, that is why it essential to fit quality weight distribution equipment. We did a lot of things 40 Yrs ago that were acceptable then because we new no better. It's different today & it needed to be changed. Good luck in your adventures
