While a lot of you make your way to Warraweena tomorrow, I will be boarding the big bird to Canada and the Calgary Stampede.
Been a life long wish of mine to go to the biggest rodeo in the world and can't quite believe the time has finally arrived.
Would loved to have gone to the national gathering with you guys, but maybe next year.
Hope it is a real hoot for you all and look forward to reading reports.
Cheers Ray

Gee tough choice, but I think that I would have done the same thing.

I decided a few years ago that the only OS trips that I intend to do will be to go to the Calgary Stampede and the PBR finals in Las Vegas

Have a good trip, you sure that I won't fit in your suitcase??

Cheers Kev

Gee Kev, sorry mate but suitcase almost full, left just enough room to bring home some goodies
PBR finals sounds like a great trip for another year, couldn't get to the one here last month... work commitments, you know how it is

Ray,

I'm just desperate to get out of the house ATM, I'm up to 12 weeks off work and still no closer to going back to work full time.
I hope you have a good trip, are you going for every day of the Stampede?

Cheers Kev

Would love to spend every day there, but the wife doesn't share the same love of wild bulls, so have to spend some time taking in the sights, but hey it's a tough life.
Hope you get back on your feet soon

Good on ya Poppy!!! Have a ball!

I was lucky enough to be there a year or two ago - drove out from Vancouver, through the Rockies. Loved it (though there are a hell of a lot of gonads in goosenecks driving at 75km/h, with few overtaking opportunities).

The stampede is (as you're possibly aware) a bit like a big royal show here, though the whole town gets in on the act (at a rough guess, Calgary would be of similar size to Adelaide) - everyone getting about in cowboy hats & tassles. Though I never could quite come to terms with denim skirts + cowboy boots. Maybe you could explain that to me when you get back!

Plenty to see at the rodeo, and they run virtually every event each day, so you don't spend all day watching bulls or horses.

There's one event, the name of which escapes me at the moment but which could possibly be called the "Thelwell introduction to rodeo". It starts with little kids on ponies, and ends with little kids being dragged around the stadium by steers. Very entertaining.

Have an awesome trip!
