Anyone had tried this camera for offroading?

Submitted: Tuesday, May 06, 2003 at 22:59

Mike

Hi all, just find a very interesting digital camera from ebay. It is water and shock proof ! Perfectly what I need when offroading.

Can I get this in Aust ? Is there any other camera good for outdoor activity ? (Waterproof is a must as I had damaged a camera when my friend slipped into a deep mud hole when taking pic for my truck)

Mike,

My only comment would be that at 1.3 mega pixels, you might be disappointed in quality of the pictures, particularly the ability to print say, 6" x 4" copies. These days, digital cameras are moving towards 5 mega pixels and that is just enough to print a good quality 8" x 10" image.

If it was me and I wanted to take some lasting images in out of the way places, I would god for higher pixels and trade off the fact that I would need to take a bit more care with the camera in terms of dust, moisture etc. You might want to have a look at this Canon camera (I'm a user, not a canon employee).

It's 3.2 megapixelas and you can get a waterproof case for it.

if they are only cheapies off Ebay they are ok.

Lots of camera manufacturers arent giving warranty with imported cameras now, they will check the serials and go from that.

Mike, I agree that 3.2 or 3.4 mpixels is the minimum requirement. Waterproofing is going to add a huge amount to the cost. The common brands often have a plastic waterproof case as an extra that enables scuba diving etc. Do you really need that? Most people are able to keep a camera dry - keep your friend away from it ;-)

Or if you do need a 100% waterproof camera, buy my Underwater Nikonos 4a Diving Camera...
